By Sean O’Connell A handful of awards winners have signed up for Ash Christian’s new dark comedy “Petunia.” Thie film begins shooting in New York City later this year.

“Petunia” will star Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Thora Birch (“American Beauty,” “Ghost World”); Academy Award, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Christine Lahti (“Chicago Hope,” “Jack & Bobby”), Eddie Kaye Thomas (“How To Make It In America”), Michael Urie (“Ugly Bett”y), Brittany Snow (“Hairspray,” “Harry’s Law”), David Rasche (“Burn After Reading”) and newcomer Tobias Segal (Broadway’s “The Miracle Worker”).

The story centers around an offbeat family of New Yorkers who, according to a release, “must come to terms with their own misgivings about life, relationships and the sheer unpredictability of love itself.”

More from the release:

“Petunia” weaves together the lives of brothers Charlie, Adrian and Michael as they unlearn everything their psychoanalyst parents have taught them. While Michael’s cynical wife Vivian discovers she is pregnant, the family is also changing. Charlie’s would-be boyfriend is in a polyamarous relationship with fitness fanatic Robin, and Adrian has developed a unrelenting sex addiction. Meddling parents Felicia and Percy must decide whether to reignite the spark in their relationship or start all over again.
