“Harry Potter” Movie, Stars Nominated for Academy Awards

HollywoodNews.com: The nominations for the 83rd Academy Awards were announced on Tuesday morning, and included nods for the most recent film in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1.

The nominations for Deathly Hallows include:

Art Direction – Stuart Craig (Production Design); Stephenie McMillan (Set Decoration)
Visual Effects – Tim Burke, John Richardson, Christian Manz and Nicolas Aithadi

Other nominated films, The King’s Speech, Another Year, and Alice in Wonderland also have Harry Potter connections; all three films feature longtime cast members who are all considered some of the very best in British acting.

The King’s Speech, which stars Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange), Michael Gambon (Albus Dumbledore) and Timothy Spall (Peter Pettigrew), received a total of twelve (12) nominations. Bonham Carter is nominated in the Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role category, and composer Alexander Desplat – who scored the soundtrack for Deathly Hallows Part 1 – has been nominated for Original Score.

Alice in Wonderland, which starts Bonham Carter, Spall, Alan Rickman (Severus Snape) and Stephen Fry (narrator of the British “Harry Potter” audiobooks) will compete against Deathly Hallows in the Art Direction and Visual Effects categories; it is also nominated for Costume Design.

Another Year, which stars Jim Broadbent (Horace Slughorn), Imelda Staunton (Dolores Umbridge) and David Bradley (Argus Filch), is nominated for Original Screenplay.

The 83rd Academy Awards will air on February 27 at 8pm EST/5pm PST. The full list of nominations can be found on the official website for the Oscars.
