“Hunger Games” gets a 2012 release date, but who will star?

Hollywoodnews.com: One of the most anticipated page-to-screen Hollywood adaptations has to be “The Hunger Games,” a cinematic take on Suzanne Collins’ extremely popular young adult literary series that sounds like a cross between “Twilight” and “The Running Man.”
Casting tidbits have been hard to come by, though it was reported earlier this month that “True Grit” standout and Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld was interested in the lead role of Katniss Everdeen, who must survive a brutal reality TV contest set in a not-too-distant future.
Expect “Hunger Games” news items to heat up, however, now that director Gary Ross and Lionsgate have revealed the film’s release date: March 23, 2012. EW.com also reports that “Games” will begin lensing the first part of a planned “Hunger” trilogy later this spring.
