“Housewives” Miss Lawrence drops first single
By Kim Palacios
hollywoodnews.com: Atlanta hair stylist turned recording artist Lawrence “Miss Lawrence” Washington released his first single through iTunes today. The song, “Closet Freak”, was produced by Atlanta Housewife Kandi Burruss, through her production company, Kandi Koated Entertainment.
Lawrence is the most recent in a long line of “Housewives” co-stars to utilize the show to promote budding recording careers. Countess LuAnn de Lesseps of the New York City cast released her single “Money Can’t Buy You Class” during the show’s most recent season, and Atlanta cast member Kim Zolciak released “The Ring Didn’t Mean a Thing” (also produced by Atlanta’s Burruss) in season two.
Though several Housewives have exploited the show to boost side careers in areas counterindicated by a dearth of talent, Miss Lawrence’s real singing chops set him apart. In recent Atlanta episodes, as well as in Andy Cohen’s “Watch What Happens: Live” post-game show, Kim Zolciak’s lack of vocal talent has been contrasted with the trained voice and performing history of Miss Lawrence. When asked whether he believed Zolciak had potential as an artist, Miss Lawrence was generous with his praise: “I don’t think she’ll ever be great singer…but I think she can be developed into a great artist. She’s over the top and dramatic, and that’s what a lot of artists are.”
