Happy Birthday to Adam Lambert, Greg Louganis and more

By Greg Hernandez

HollywoodNews.com: It’s quite a big day for birthdays!

First of all, it’s Oprah Winfrey’s 57th birthday and after watching the retrospective of 25 years of LGBT issues on her show earlier this week, I had a renewed appreciation for Oprah’s efforts in helping to tell the stories of our lives.

Among those Oprah welcomed this week was Olympic hero Greg Louganis who I wrote about earlier this week. Greg, winner of four Olympic Gold Medals in diving, turns 51 years old today.

Greg has been living with HIV for more than two decades and while he has managed to stay relatively healthy, he has often said “I wouldn’t wish my drug regiment on anybody.”

For this reason, he has often spoken out publicly to younger gays urging them to practice safe sex in order to remain negative. It’s a worthwhile message from a real hero not only in sport, but in life.

Sara Gilbert, the one-time cast member on the Roseanne sitcom, also has a birthday today.

She turns 36!

Sara is now an executive producer and one of the hosts of the new CBS daytime show ‘The Talk’ which was renewed this week for a second season.

Since the launch of ‘The Talk,’ Sarah has been more open about her life as a mom and partner to partner Allison Adler and their children.

When I chatted with Sara last summer during the TV Critics Association Summer Press Tour, I wondered how it felt for this always very private actress to be more of an open book.

“It feels fine,” she said. “It’s a change for me and I’m excited. That’s one of the things I love about life is changing and growing and having new experiences because if I didn’t then it would be the same thing over and over again. I feel happy about where I am in my life right now.”

And finally, there is the one and only Adam Lambert.

His hair is a lot longer than it is here in this photo taken last April but I personally snapped it of the birthday boy at the GLAAD Media Awards so it’s a special photo to me.
