Grammy: And the Best Female Pop Vocal…

By Gold Derby News Desk Gold Derby’s music experts David Schnelwar and Darrin Dortch reveal who will win and who should win in the category of Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. In the days to come, they will be predicting the rest of the top Grammy races.

They already offered their picks and predix for the two dance-related categories: Best Electronic/Dance Album and Best Dance Recording.

And they have also given their predictions for Best Rap Song, Best Rap Album, Best Rap Duo or Group, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Rap Solo Performance.

“King of Anything,” Sara Bareilles
“Halo” (Live), Beyonce
“Chasing Pirates,” Norah Jones
“Bad Romance,” Lady Gaga
“Teenage Dream,” Katy Perry

David’s take: The winner of this category is usually nominated in the General Field and/or Best Pop Vocal Album. Norah Jones has won in this category twice before. The two times she previously won in this category, she was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album and in the General Field (in her debut year). This year, her fourth album “The Fall” did not receive a Best Pop Vocal Album and is not likely to win. Beyonce is the returning champion of this category for the live version of “Halo” which is the same song she won for last year. However, last year she had three nominations in the General Field which helped her win. Sara Bareilles only received one nomination this year and is not likely to upset. The race is between Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. I expect Lady Gaga to win.

Will win: Lady Gaga, “Bad Romance”
Should wn: Lady Gaga, “Bad Romance”
Spoiler: Katy Perry, “Teenage Dream”
