Elton John wants Robert Downey Jr. for planned biopic?

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: He may have sang “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” but Elton John reportedly is saying “hello” to the idea of a biopic, and he even has an idea of whom he’d like to play him on screen.

While promoting the animated film “Gnomeo and Juliet,” which uses John’s music, the singer-songwriter revealed that he is working with “Billy Elliot” musical writer Lee Hall on a biopic.

“I’d just like to make a really great film about my life story,” John told BBC Radio 2 (courtesy of The Guardian). “We have a great script already by Lee Hall … It will be more of a fantasy – ‘Moulin Rouge’ type of stuff. Obviously, it’s not going to be your normal, run-of-the-mill film. My life’s been so surreal, from buying a football club to God knows what.”

And in a separate interview held at the London premiere of “Gnomeo,” John told BANG Showbiz, “Robert Downey Jr. could maybe play me at a certain stage.”

Heck yes! That sounds fantastic. Will it happen? Well, we’ve got a long way to go, but it’s encouraging that John is supportive of the project, and his music (with Hall) for “Billy Elliot” is winning. Let’s see what comes of it.
