Ricky Gervais back to the Globes? Not so fast.
By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: So when Ricky Gervais wrote on his official site that he was asked to “consider” returning next year as the host of the Golden Globes Awards, he apparently needed to clarify who it was who approached him, because it wasn’t necessarily anyone from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
The invitation, instead, reportedly came from executives at NBC – who likely were thrilled with the Globes’ ratings and the buzz Gervais created in days following the event – and not from anyone at the HFPA.
“There is no truth to this rumor,” association president Philip Berk said in a statement. “We have not asked him to come back. Nice try, Ricky.”
Gervais backed up that comment, stating, “At no point did I talk to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. I’m absolutely sure they don’t want me back.”
Amazing. We’re still writing about the Globes. And will continue to write about them until Gervais announces he IS hosting next year’s ceremony … and the Oscars, as well. Hey, it’s possible, right?
