Anderson Cooper latest journalist to leave Egypt
HollywoodNews.com: CNN anchor Anderson Cooper announced today via his Twitter account that he is leaving Egypt after he and his crew were targeted in Cairo this past week.
“It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to leave Egypt,” Cooper wrote on his Twitter. He added in a later Tweet that his choosing to leave was a “hard decision” to make.
Cooper is the latest high-profile journalist to leave Egypt, which is currently in a state of political turmoil that has led to violent protests and riots. Both NBC’s Brian Williams and CBS’ Katie Couric departed the nation last Thursday, with Couric returning to report from New York City.
According to the Committee To Protect Journalists, 114 direct attacks on journalists have been documented so far.
