Abigail Breslin hits the rock ‘n’ roll road for Tribeca summer film

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Another Toronto International Film Festival veteran has found a home this morning, as Tribeca Film announces its acquisition of Unified Pictures’ “Janie Jones,” a road-trip story starring Abigail Breslin (“Little Miss Sunshine”), Alessandro Nivola (“Coco Before Chanel”), Elisabeth Shue (“Leaving Las Vegas”) and Brittany Snow (“Hairspray”). The film will be released over the summer.

“Janie Jones” tells the somewhat autobiographical story of a 13-year old girl (Breslin) left in the custody of her burned-out rock star father (Nivola), whom she has never met. As the two try and connect, they find a shared bond for music that solidifies their natural, emotional ties.

“This film is incredibly dear to me,” said director David Rosenthal. “I didn’t meet my daughter until she was 11 years old, and it was perhaps the most profound moment in my life. ‘Janie Jones’ captures that emotion. So knowing Tribeca Film is treating the release of the film with such care is a great comfort to me – not to mention very exciting.”

“‘Janie Jones’ is especially notable as a showcase for the extraordinary talents of Alessandro and Abigail, whose on-screen musical performances are nothing short of revelatory,” said Geoffrey Gilmore, Chief Creative Officer of Tribeca Enterprises.
