Katie Holmes horror “Don’t Be Afraid” coming in August

By Sean O’Connell FilmDistrict isn’t afraid to take a chance on the new horror flick “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.” The distribution outfit acquired the Guillermo del Toro-produced horror film, and will release it in the U.S. on Aug. 12.

Katie Holmes and Guy Pearce star in this remake of a 1973 television movie about a young girl who stirs up demonic troubles after moving in with her father and his new girlfriend.

THR writes that “Dark” was one of the titles that “found itself adrift when Disney shut down its Miramax label,” but Del Toro made a convincing case at last summer’s Comic-Con.

Del Toro co-wrote the script with Matthew Robbins, while Troy Nixey directs.
