“Spider-Man” villain “pivotal” to new story, actor says
By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: There has been so much news regarding “The Amazing Spider-Man” – from the new title to the first official image of Andrew Garfield’s wall-crawler – that we kind of forgot Irrfan Khan had a role in Marc Webb’s anticipated blockbuster.
Thankfully, the “Slumdog Millionaire” star is around to remind us. While speaking to NDTV (courtesy of ComingSoon.net), Khan said that Webb hired him after watching the actor’s performance in the drama “In Treatment.”
“The role got me some good reviews there and I think the industry there is aware of my work,” Khan said.
When asked to elaborate on his contribution to the next “Spider-Man” movie, Khan said, “I play one of the villains in the movie. It is a pivotal role.”
When it was announced that Khan was joining the production, it was suggested that he’d play Nels Van Adder, a character from the comics who goes on to become Proto-Goblin. That’s still a possibility, I assume, though with Rhys Ifans on board as The Lizard, we’re going to be in danger of villain overload. Maybe not. We’ll find out in time.
“The Amazing Spider-Man” will be in theaters on July 3, 2012.
