“Thor” trailer teases Asgard, shows more Natalie Portman

Hollywoodnews.com: A new “Thor” trailer premiered online, developing both the Asgard-based and Earth-set storylines that will make up Kenneth Branagh’s film. By the looks of this new trailer, it’s pretty obvious why Marvel felt confident enough to open up the summer blockbuster season with their godly character.

The Yahoo editors also connect the dots between Oscar-nominated talents like Natalie Portman appearing in comic-book movies. “Currently, four out of the 20 Oscar nominees in the acting categories will be in a Marvel Comics film in the next two years,” they note.

Is that because the comic-book genre has achieved respectability? Or is it because Hollywood makes so many of them nowadays – from “X-Men” to Batman to a rebooted Superman and Spider-Man – that credible actors like Portman, Christian Bale, Mark Ruffalo and James McAvoy have to accept roles in these blockbusters if they’re anxious to work?

Either way, “Thor” looks solid. This new trailer leads me to believe Branagh and his team will be able to bridge Thor’s two worlds. I think audiences are in for a major adventure come May 6, when the film opens everywhere.
