Adam Lambert on why he wanted to be an openly gay celeb

HollywoodNews.com: Adam Lambert wants to be there for his fans which is why it has been important for him to be openly gay.

Lambert recently spoke with ‘Entertainment Tonight Canada’ about all this and why he made the decision to come out publicly, states On Top Magazine. “It’s an amazing opportunity to help people. It is more than the music. It’s a lifestyle thing. And I think that there isn’t a ton of visibility for gays and lesbians,” Lambert said about making others comfortable with making this decision for themselves.

“You’ve got to be in love with yourself in order to love anybody else or in order to get along with anybody else,” Lambert said as his advice to those struggling with their sexuality.

Why shouldn’t the guy be “openly gay” – I’m openly heterosexual! What in heck does people’s sexual preference have to do with what kind of person they are?

Adam is a wonderful role model. He’s talented, kind, generous, and incredibly honest, regardless of what it costs him. He has inspired so many people around the world. I wish only wonderful things for this mega-talented artist, and hope that he has the recognition, success, and longevity that he so truly deserves.

I believe absolutely in Adam Lambert and his willingness to be exactly who he is and proud of it. Too many artists/actors are hiding in fear. Adam has already broken down many barriers, and will break more as time goes by.

I admire Adam for willing to be the first artist signed to a major label who is openly gay right from the beginning. He has taken so much outright hate, exposed the double standards in the entertainment industry, and dealt with veiled homophobia amongst the media and public pretending to be concern for his career (suggestions that he tone it down to sell) while being true to himself and supporting a variety of charitable enterprises. I’d be proud if he were my son (if I were old enough that he could be my son).

By the way — how about updating with a photo that’s more recent than a year old? He looked fantastic at the Grammys — why not use one of the katrillion pics from just last week?

Yes, he is a good role model-he shows us we should be happy with who we are, and only be who we are, no one else. and to love who you love and don’t give a shit about what others think. But also, to treat other’s equally.

To me, Adam is one of the best role model’s

Aawww, he’s so sweet. It’s a good thing he’s my inspiration, not someone like beiber. Anyway, I think that he is a very loyal and kind person and wants the best for the kids of today. Good job Adam!!

WHAT? Adam said there was no way he could ever even consider hiding his sexuality since it’s not his personality and he’s an open book. He interviewed this WAY BACK in 2009. You bloggers are a mess. Where did you get this business about “being there for his fans”? eyeroll You people better fact check with Glambert before writing all this nonsense.

Adam is a beautiful person on so many levels. He is a role model (among others).
    Adam Lambert is GREAT.

I admire Adam for being true to himself and yes he is the first “openly gay” artist signed to a major label. and on and on…… but I read an interesting comment on another site from a Lambert fan (like me). Can we stop referring to him as “openly gay” . Must this always be the prefix. In Europe he was apparently never questioned about his sexuality.
Also, the focus should be on his talent because we want him to have a long and very successful music career. It will be many months until we hear Adam on the radio again and most people don’t care about his boyfriends, charities etc. except us loyal fans. I hope he is able to collaborate with excellent writers and producers on his next cd because it will have to be epic with radio-ready singles sailing to the top of the charts – we don’t want him to fade away. This comment is not intended to be a criticism in any way. I just think his music is what’s most important. I’d love to see him “knock” some of his peers out of the top 10 (including Bruno Mars).

You bet I think Adam Lambert is a role model! I hear every day where some youth says that Adam changed their life through his music and his message! Adam has taught us all to love ourselves and others, to stay positive no matter what life hands us or what haters hand us, that we aren’t alone and showed us how to stay strong and ignore all the negativety because we are so much better than their hate! Adam is my inspriation, I love him!!

Adam says he is honest and open to a fault. It would be against his character to try and hide who he is. Plus we live in the information age and those photos with his ex were on the internet.

I think he’s a great role model. He’ so open, and despite media perceptions – he comes across as a really nice guy. I love the fact that he is totally at ease with his sexuality ♥
Mr Lambert, please kiss more guys on stage and make homophobic america maaad ♥

I wonder why the topic of Adam’s sexuality has to be constantly a topic of many articles after all this time! He is gay but first and formost he is an ubertalented singer and entertainer. The media is behaving like he’s the only as you put it “openly” gay singer out there. Adam’s message is for everyone to be comfortable in their own skin and not to be afraid to be who they are and show it. He is a role model for all of those kids struggling with their sexuality and for those who are afraid to be exactly who they are because they are afraid what people think. He is honest and humble and gives more of himself to his fans and the media than he should but he always said he didn’t want to hide anything because to him that wouldn’t be right. He has let all the nasty homophobic jibes flung towards him the past couple of years roll off of his shoulders with dignity and pride and wants people to realize that you can’t please everyone and to try would only make your life miserable. All of those homophobes out there need to open their eyes and see what a lovely, peace loving and confident young man Adam is and learn by his example. He is on his way to being a worldwide icon and Superstar and nothing is going to stop him.

is adam a good role model? YES HE IS! adam is great in fact i think he is the best singer of the 21st century although it hasnt ended yet… he is a great singer one of the best voices of all the times! but one of the most important things he does thanks to his talent and fame is supporting the LGBT comunity in which he is also concluded. he opens our world to straight people and shows them that sexuality isnt the personality and that gay is OK and you shouldnt be ashamed of being one. thats why adam is a good role model – if you are gay dont give up you can become someone like adam , but dont forget that you ARE someone already and u are as good as a heterosexual or maybe even better?

Why is it important for gay people especially in the media etc to be open and out?

First of all to give hope to the 3000 gay kids who commit suicide every year. thats a repeating 9-11 and we should also be at war over ending this probl;em

Second, as people get to know gay people, they almost always learn that gay people are just like other people. they are then innoculated against the hatred – in the name of ‘god’ no less that is rampart in our society.

Thats what ending DADT is also about. When the soldiers discover thart people they know, respect, and trust with their lives mutually are gay, another nail goes into the coffin of hate and homophobia.

Adam cannot help but be a great role model when he has been completely honest with himself and the public. He lives his life with pride and hope, and gives hope to many others. In two years, he has opened more barriers than any other artist I can think of.

  • February 20, 2011 | Permalink |

He is a great role model and even though this isn’t what he intended at the beginning of his career I think he found he could help young people with excepting who they are and loving themselves inspite of being different. I don’t think Rosa Parks meant to start something when she refused to move to the back of the bus. I think this is just something that happens to really great people. It’s their calling and this may be Adam’s biggest contribution…time will tell.

Adam Lambert is an excellent role model. He’s smart, articulate, authentic, funny, kind, introspective, respectful, exciting, open, generous, dedicated and, of course, talented beyond description. His spirit/energy/essence inspire, transport, uplift, delight. Truly, the world’s a better place for having high-profile positive role models like Adam in it and, like Iking said before me, his indescribably fine human qualities and extraordinary talent have opened minds and hearts like no one else. Aren’t we blessed to live in the time of Adam Lambert?!

Adam is a great role model. We should be comfortable with what we are. This will be a great help in our relationships as fear and insecurity do not get the better of us. Adam is right in being open and honest . At least he is not a hypocrite.

  • February 21, 2011 | Permalink |

Adam is certainly a good role model, not only for those struggling with their sexual idenity, but anyone struggling to find out who they are, what their ideals are, and where they want to go in life. As long as Adam has been visable to the public, he has always seemed to be true to himself and his belief system. And..he has shown incredible generosity to fans and community alike. That incredible talent he possesses is icing on the already scrumptous cake we know as Adam Lambert, with much more to come…gotta love the guy.

Of course! Adam is a great role model for every human being, regardless of gender, age, sexuality… He has a golden heart that’s why we love him to death. Not to mention great music and voice! Go baby!
