Kobe Bryant takes NBA MVP, unveils star-studded “Black Mamba” short film

By Sean O’Connell Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant earned his fourth MVP award at last night’s NBA All-Star game, leading the West to a 148-143 victory over the East in the Staples Center.

“It feels great, being at home here and playing in front of the home crowd,” Bryant said during the post-game ceremonies. “This will be my last All-Star game in front of these home fans, so it feels good to do it.”

But for film fans, the cinematic treat they were waiting for arrived before All-Star festivities, when Nike unveiled the full Robert Rodriguez-directed clip “The Black Mamba,” which stars Bryant as his infamous alter ego. You can watch it below.

The clip introduces a few basketball-loving celebrities for Bryant’s Black Mamba character to face off against (played by a cameo-making stars I won’t reveal here), and plenty of big explosions (thank you, product placement!)

It might be the best basketball shoe commercial you’ve ever seen. Needless to say, when Bryant’s basketball career ends, he’ll be able to stay in L.A. and make a go at an acting career.
