Cameron Diaz gets great grades in red-band “Bad Teacher” trailer

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Fans of crude comedy should have plenty to look forward to this summer.

The “Hangover” guys are stirring up trouble in Thailand. Cameron Diaz assaults our nation’s education system as a “Bad Teacher.” Heck, the Farrelly Brothers deliver a pretty hilarious appetizer this weekend with the raunchy “Hall Pass.”

But before the summer season gets underway, we’ll have a few trailers to check out. “Bad Teacher” is the first one out of the gate, teasing the Diaz comedy about an elementary school educator who hates her kids, loves the new substitute (Justin Timberlake), and wants to win a state-given cash prize for excellence so she can afford a breast augmentation.

The red-band clip, which you can see on The Playlist, gets a B+ as it gives us a good sense of Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg’s humor. (The duo has penned jokes for “The Office,” but also wrote the atrocious “Year One.”) Jakes Kasdan (“Walk Hard”) directs the film, which co-stars Jason Segal, John Michael Higgins and Phyllis Smith (of “The Office”).

Based on the clip, “Bad Teacher” reminds me of “Bad Santa.” If it can dial into the pitch-black soul of Billy Bob Thornton’s unapologetically demented comedy, we’ll all be thrilled.

“Bad Teacher” opens June 24, opposite Disney-Pixar’s anticipated sequel “Cars 2.”
