Simon Cowell judges “Idol,” swipes at Steven Tyler

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Simon Cowell appeared on Jay Leno’s “Tonight Show” Wednesday night to discuss his upcoming competition program “X-Factor” … but he couldn’t help but comment on the state of his former show, “American Idol.”

“I think it’s about the same,” Cowell told Leno about the new season of “Idol,” the first without Cowell since the show started in the States, THR reports.

“I’m like that with my friends,” he continued. “Do well. Just don’t do that well.”

And while Cowell hasn’t shown face on the program this season, some audience members believe he’s still on the panel … and still being joined by former “Idol” hosts.

“My mom, who is 86, I think she forgot that I wasn’t on the show this year,” Cowell joked with Jay.

And when Simon asked his mom her thoughts on the new celebrity panel, she said, “Tell Jennifer, the new girl, I like her. Give my love to Randy. And, true story, tell Paula [Abdul] she looks a bit tired.”

That last comment was a dig at Steven Tyler, though there’s no doubt Mama Cowell meant no harm by mistaking the Aerosmith frontman with Abdul. With all fo the money Simon made from his “Idol” days, can’t he afford to get his mum better eyeglasses … or a bigger television set?

Simon’s jealous because now, so many posts of American Idol are saying “Simon who?” LOL.
