Superman scores a beautiful new mom

By Sean O’Connell

Hollywoodnews.com: Diane Lane is changing horses midstream, leaping from “Secretariat” to the upcoming Man of Steel blockbuster.

The Oscar nominee will play Clark Kent’s adoptive mother in Zack Snyder’s planned Superman reboot, which has cast Henry Cavill in the lead role, THR reports.

“This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman,” Snyder said in a statement. “We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination.”

We don’t know yet who will play Martha’s husband, Jonathan Kent, or if the character will be in this version of the story, at all. Bryan Singer included Martha Kent in his “Superman Returns,” but went with the older Eva Marie Saint.

Does this mean Lane will wear aging makeup? Or will Martha be in her late 40s in this rendition of Superman’s story?

We’ll have to wait until December 2012, when this as-yet-untitled Superman project soars into theaters.
