G.I. Joe sequel has a release date, new director

Hollywoodnews.com: Now this is what we call “fast-tracked.”

Days after Paramount Pictures opted to go with “Just Bieber: Never Say Never” director John Chu as the helmer of the next “G.I. Joe” adventure, the sequel has a release date.

ComingSoon reports that the as-yet-untitled “G.I. Joe” sequel will hit theaters on Aug. 10, 2012, or “exactly three years and three days to the date” after the first one opened. The initial “Joe” adventure, directed by Stephen Sommers, earned $302.4 million globally.

That’s not a lot of time, however, and we have heard horror stories of film productions – particularly those with no cast in place or, as far as we know, a finished script – racing to meet a predetermined release date. Expect casting news shortly, and plenty more “Joe” news in the coming weeks and months.
