“Survivor” pioneer Richard Hatch: playing “Celebrity Apprentice” to win

Richard Hatch

By Kim Palacios

hollywoodnews.com: He won the very first “Survivor” eleven years ago (not to mention the million dollar prize). Now Richard Hatch is playing “Celebrity Apprentice” to win. In tonight’s season premiere, Hatch jumped at the chance to lead the men’s team, “Backbone”, through its first task. Hatch made a strong showing as project manager, and though his team lost, Hatch did not get fired.

“Richard started off the day very demanding…controlling…aggressive” said co-contestant Jose Canseco in an aside. “It didn’t’ sit well with me.” By the end of the episode, fellow guy’s team members agreed. In 2000, his tactic was to befriend other players, to seem unintimidating, and to hide his fiercely competitive nature. But in 2011, Hatch’s modus operandi is known and his agenda is not so secret.
