Adam Lambert rocks American Idol; Kris Allen nowhere to be found

By Kim Palacios

hollywoodnews.com: Remember Kris Allen, winner of Season 8 on “American Idol”? Neither does anyone else. Lambert performed on last week’s episode of Season 10, bringing the star’s reappearance count to three, compared to Allen’s one.

Lambert is more than just a favorite among “Idol” producers—he’s clearly a favorite among fans. His album debuted at #3, selling nearly 200,000 in its first week. (Allen’s album debuted at #11 on Billboard, and his single “Live Like We’re Dying” never rose higher than #18).

Whereas Lambert has already been nominated for a Grammy, Allen is bereft of music industry awards. Even with respect to popularity contests (both Lambert and Allen were nominated for Teen Choice Awards in 2009), where the two competed around the same nomination, Lambert won.

It begs the question: could the rumors have been true? Did the conservative Fox network really throw the contest out of Lambert’s favor? If current popularity is any indication, Lambert had what it took to have won Season 8.

Awww poor Kris. He doesn’t deserve to be put down at all. He’s a great talent and should be doing better than he is. Adam is great too and who knows or cares if he shoulda won the stupid show. He doesn’t. So why should anyone else? But would you quit using the absolute worst picture you have of Adam. There are millions of better ones out there. Are you too lazy to look?

  • March 12, 2011 | Permalink |

Of course, the article doesn’t point out that at this same point in the game – 2 years after Idol – Clay Aiken had not only won numerous Billboard and AMA awards (how many Billboard and AMA awards has Adam won? Oh, yeah, none!), but his album was certified DOUBLE platinum in a month (Adam’s not even to single platinum yet, and it’s been out for a year and a half), AND he had a Christmas album that went platinum.

You want to compare Idol contestants? There you go. Aiken kicks Lambert’s a$$.

And I’m not even an Aiken fan. I just hate these sorts of BS articles.

This seriously needs to STOP. All this Kris hate in so stupid. He’s an amazing artist in his own right and is completely different than Adam. It’s pointless and ridiculous to keep comparing Kris and Adam. They BOTH deserved to win and in some ways they both did win. I’m an insanely huge fan of Adam’s and I love Kris as well. And Adam loves him too. They became super close on Idol and Adam has had nothing but good things to say about Kris and vise versa. They’re both wonderful people and neither of them deserve the hate that they get from these foolish comparison articles. The hateful fans from both sides need to give it a rest. Adam and Kris have always shown us the true meaning of friendship and acceptance. Maybe it’s time a few people took and page from their book.

    Kradam is love.

Adam would not like this article AT ALL!! He calls Chris his friend. Also I see a lot of “Glamberts”, which by the way , I am proud to be a member, defending Chris, but some of Chris’ fans being a tad snarky to Adam! Wonder if Chris would like that and if he would scold his fans? Adam has done that before for Chris!! Adam has said before that he never expected to make the top 7! Do I think Adam should have won – Uh YEA, but Idol Season 8 is OVER people!! They both have moved on!

  • March 12, 2011 | Permalink |

First of all, thank you for loving Adam. Second, the majority of Adam’s fans never slam Kris Allen. There are small fractions of fans for Kris and Adam that battle back and forth but that does not represent either’s total fan base. Someone that said the audience percentage was down…had not heard that at all, but then if it were true, Adam was not the only guest so what are you saying about PDiddy too then? Sounded like the in-house audience was loving the beautiful rendition of Adam’s Aftermath. He is donating proceeds to The Trevor Project for youth in crisis. Adam deserves every good thing said about him. He IS a great talent and a good person.

Kris Allen and Adam Lambert ‘s friendship made Season 8 so much fun. Loved that they were good friends. I think after Idol marketing made them go in separate directions. Kris is a good guy and very talented in his own right. There is plenty of room in this huge world for both singers. I think it would be great to see them on American Idol together singing…how cool would it be to have all the winners and runner ups from the previous 9 seasons come out and sing a song for the finale???

  • March 12, 2011 | Permalink |

I don’t think the voting was rigged. Kris got the winning boost from the post-Gokey voters, everyone at AI saw it coming but could do nothing about it. Both Kris and Adam have handled it in a classy way. Sometimes you have to take it as it comes, and they’ve made the best of it. They are both winners!

  • March 12, 2011 | Permalink |

netmeg, are you for real? We’re not talking about child labor in Rwanda or genocide in Libya. There is no “wrong” to right here. The winner of American Idol is not some moral decision; they count up the votes and whoever wins, wins. AT&T set it up so people could vote as many times as they wanted to; there’s no rules regarding how those votes are created and tallied.

An AT&T rep went to Arkansas and handed out 10,000 free cell phones so people could speed-dial votes for Kris? LEGAL. 100% LEGAL. Adam’s reps could have done the same thing in San Diego, too bad for them that they didn’t.

Kris’ win was totally legal, and a “fair” as a show that doesn’t limit votes to 1 per person can get. If this is the greatest injustice you’ve ever had to face, hit your knees and thank God. Then go watch the footage from Japan and ask yourself if you’re spending your energy in the most productive way.

I had to weigh whether to give a hit to share how inappropriate this article is or not. It’s clear which one won. I was outraged when I read this article. I am a huge Adam fan, always have been and will always be. This is not an article that Adam would endorse or his fans! Bad taste! IMO!

  • March 12, 2011 | Permalink |

While I am a huge Adam Lambert fan, I find this ‘review’ distasteful and petty. Adam unfailingly has supportive things to say about Kris Allen, and certainly never disrespects him in any interviews he has given, domestically or internationally. He thinks and says that Kris is talented, and to be honest, I think so too, although his style is more casual and low key than Adam’s. And, if you checked your facts, you would find that Kris has actually been back to AI more than once (I caught both his visit to the final last year and his earlier visit with Alison… and didn’t he do ‘Let it Be’ on Idol gives back with video of a trip to Haiti?). However, the competition is over; Kris won because his fans voted more times each than the Lambert fans, and were undoubtedly helped out by the religious right fans of the third place singer when he was voted off. Although both singers wanted the finale to be about singing, both realized that there were other factors at play, and both said that they happy for the other no matter who won. So America got their idol, and the rest of us got Glambert, and everyone is happy. There is no reason to be dragging up bitter fabricated rivalries that never existed, in a pathetic cynical attempt to increase your on-line readership.

Enough! Enough! How long do you want to bit a dead hors? I know you are (ALL OF YOU) looking for an easy way to get hits , but……….COME ON!

  • March 12, 2011 | Permalink |

Sorry but GOTTA go with Netmeg on this one. She’s right…110%. All the hand-holding and “Kumabya” is fine but it doesn’t do ANYONE any favors to hide TRUTH. Idol WAS involved with scamming the public re: the actual results. And while it’s TRUE that Adam is great without a title and Kris is doing nowhere near as well…..it just really GLARINGLY points to the TRUTH.
So by all means, pout if you must, hide your head in the sand, whatever makes you feel better. But as Judge Judy says, “Don’t pee on my leg and tell me it’s raining!” ADAM ROCKS!
And a PS to “lol”….Adam writes and co-writes but most of all, he can REALLY sing. ;D

WHAT A LAME AND PETTY ARTICLE TO GET A HIT. Kris is an amazing performer and an artist. You can’t compare to Adam Lambert because the two are opposite. This is old news move on. We love Kris.

Kris Allen has not been forgotten! He is an amazing talent. I traveled to four of his concerts last year. Kris’ fans travel across the country to go to his concerts. Kris’ concerts are amazing! His single “Live Like Were Dying” sold over 1.6 million. Correction – Kris appeared on AI two times last year. Kris is presently working on his 2nd album.

  • March 13, 2011 | Permalink |

It’s time for you to get over it. Adam’s performance on AI has nothing to do with Kris. They are completely different artists. You should focus on supporting Adam instead of trying to put other artists down.
Kris’s single Live Like We’re dying was a hit and sold over 1.6m copies , so you trying to make it sound like it did not do well just makes you look bad.
Kris has performed not only small events. He has not disappeared. And Kris can still be on idol later this season.
Both Kris and Adam are working on their second albums and they are also good friends. It’s pointless to compare them Adam would not appreciate at all how you are trying to put his good friend down.

    Adam Lambert sucks.

  • March 13, 2011 | Permalink |

Adam Lambert coming in second-place seems to be working out for him. I really don’t see why any importance is placed on winning. It seems an American Idol association is more of a hindrance–American Idol has never had a really successful male winner (David Cook may be an exception, but it’s still too early to tell). I think the platform the show offers is the point. Lambert has made the most out of his opportunity and developed a very strong fanbase, which is American Idol’s true benefit and it’s not determined by placement status.

TRY LISTENING TO ADAM ONCE IN A WHILE. THIS NEGATIVE ARTICLE WOULD DISTRESS HIM. KRIS IS ADAM’S FRIEND. CLAY WAS HATEFUL, AND NEGATIVE PUBLICALLY. ADAM BELIEVES IN A POSITIVE AND GENTLE APPROACH TO LIFE. AND, HIS VOICE, HIS OPEN HONEST HEART, AND POSITIVE ENERGY INSPIRE MILLIONS. HE IS BELOVED ALL OVER THE WORLD !

  • March 13, 2011 | Permalink |

Kris has had two appearances on Idol. Once he sang Let it Be for Haiti relief, after which Ryan Seacrest said, “and that’s why you won.” He later appeared and sang The Truth. If you can’t get your facts straight, you don’t have much credibility.

  • March 13, 2011 | Permalink |

Folks that actually watched season 8 of AI know that TPTB of AI wanted Adam and Danny Gokey to be the final two left standing. Kris’ performance’s were so strong in the final weeks that the judges had to half heartedly acknowledge Kris’ performances. Those that suggest AI worked with the numbers to give Kris the win are out of touch with reality.

  • March 13, 2011 | Permalink |

Comparisons always diminish the subjects of the comparison. Kris Allen is a great guy, and a talented musician/song writer. Adam Lambert is a one-in-a-century bundle of charisma, generosity, talent and 20 years of vocal training. I adore them both. I want them both to be happy and successful. Why denigrate either of these excellent people?

Idol is a manipulative corporate enterprise which aims to maximise advertising revenue. Both Kris and Adam chose to participate to move their careers forward. It did. Is there anything more to be said? And yes, I am a total glambert – middle aged woman and everythingl

  • March 13, 2011 | Permalink |

Kris has reappeared on Idol twice- once doing Let It Be for Haiti last year during Semifinals, and once on the finale last year doing The Truth. He’s said in interviews recently that Idol has asked him back for this season and they’re just trying to figure out when. Thanks for playing, though! Maybe try researching next time.

  • March 13, 2011 | Permalink |

@SKR- no way does Aiken kick Adams butt, how can you say that and condemn others for comparing?? duh….. who had a sold out world tour on his DEBUT CD, and the numbers from Aikens year are so different, with itunes etc. how people buy has changed, so NO, there is no way to compare…. all artists who are successful work hard and have their fans, and for fans to hate on other fans because they don’t share the same opinion is ludicrous /stupid and a waste of time.

  • March 13, 2011 | Permalink |

Even though she didn’t get all her facts straight, there is a lot of truth to the fact that most people do not know who Kris is. Only those in the idol bubble know of him. People didn’t even know who it was singing LLWD except those in the bubble. I’m not a Kris fan and don’t have any interest in whether he is successful or not but the cold hard truth is that Kris has been forgotten outside the bubble and it’s going to be almost impossible for his second album to sell at all, especially since the first one sold so little and idol alum always sell less the second time around. Kris just does not have a fan base to keep him going.

  • March 13, 2011 | Permalink |

My goodness. Not a true word in the article. That takes skill, my dear. We know just where Kris is – in Tampa, singing at a charity concert for animals. He appeared on American Idol last year THREE times, in fact – to sing “Let It Be”, for Idol Gives Back and to sing “The Truth” on the finale. And we also know he is working on a second album – which he has earned.

I am an Adam Lambert fan. I even have a blog dedicated, in part, to him. And I am very proud of what he has accomplished in the past 2.5 years with his considerable talent and his even more considerable heart. It will be a pleasure to continue to watch him reach the superstardom I believe he will attain, and which he deserves.

I also believe that Adam deserved to win Idol, but the fact is, the loss has not harmed him in the slightest. And wherever Kris’s career leads him, he’s doing far better than the poor soul who won last year and we have no idea what the future holds for him – I wish him all success. He and Adam, after all, are in no competition anymore.

  • March 13, 2011 | Permalink |

I’m a huge Adam Lambert fan, but I don’t appreciate this article at all. Kris is excellent in his own right, and since they are very different artists, I think they should not continue to be compared in this way. It’s kind of ridiculous. I greatly admire their friendship and support of one another. I wish nothing but the best for both!

  • March 13, 2011 | Permalink |

It does not take a rocket scientist to realize Adam Lambert is more popular and talented than Kris Allen. Arkansas / Chhick-fil-A / AT&T all cheated. Allen will be dropped by Jive like a hot potato when his new album flops. The only reason he sold 1.6 million of his single is because he was riding on Adam’s coattails. It is a shame some of Adam’s fans are too naive to realize Adam was cheated by Kris’s family and home state and think there still is a Kradam and stick up for the cheater. By the way, anyone who thinks that Kris is anything but boring and ordinary does not know much about music.

  • March 13, 2011 | Permalink |

Gawd how old are all you people? I have friends in school who behave better than some of the people posting in here. A bunch of Kris fans come flying in crying about the author using wrong info to put down Kris and so THEY use a whole lot of wrong info to put down Adam. Yeah brilliant guys. Way to make yourselves look really stupid and petty. And Adam fans hating on Kris. What a bad bunch of role models you all are. I know lots of commenters are not doing any of that but the idiots stand out. The shows over ppl – some of us weren’t around for the first stupid fan wars and boo hoo dummy spits from both sides 2 years after the battle is over are totally lame. Kris and Adam would be disgusted with all of it – they are both great artists in their own right. American Idol is just BS really – I don’t know why anyone takes it seriously – it’s only good for getting a boost by getting known and showing your talent – which both did successfully. Oh and Adam was brilliant the other night – great song, great performance. Loved how he looked too. Just gorgeous.

  • March 13, 2011 | Permalink |

By the way, I agree that Adam and Kris are different artist. One is amazing and one has no more talent then can be found at thousands of collages campuses across the country. Unfortunately for Kris, many, young singers are far better. All of the remaining 12 on American idol this year sing better than Kris.

  • March 13, 2011 | Permalink |

I love most of the comments especially MomaDeb. We don’t need to beat this dead horse. I love Adam (I’m a huge follower) and feel that Kris has alot of talent and is doing fine. Remember, these guys were lucky to be making a few hundred a week (in Lambert’s case $1800/week) prior to Idol. They’re different and they’re friends. I like Kris because Adam does. Kris sings better than most pop stars out there. Adam is in a league of his own. All I wanted for him was a lead in a musical theatre production and I got much more.

It’s rediculous to compare record sales of Clay’s to Adam’s. Other than Clarkson, who sold more on her second album than first, no other American IDOL Alum has sold more on their second attempt. Aiken has sold barely 60,000 copies of his latest effort. I understand he is out of the public eye now and it’s been a while. I wouldn’t compare him. Aiken hid his sexuality (I don’t blame him) and Adam is open. Don’t forget they don’t count any sales outside the US. Clay Aiken should be thanking God everyday that Lambert wasn’t competing on IDOL in 2002. There is no way Aiken has the chops, charisma or personality like Adam. He is nerdy and negative. Adam is open, honest and unfortunately making records at a terrible time. We have to look at iTunes sales now. He won’t go platinum in America most likely (which is a sin). But he has sold well over a million records worldwide. Anything more from Lambert in this shallow, emotionally bankrupt America is icing on the cake.

  • March 14, 2011 | Permalink |

To be honest, I would be happy if Kris Allen was never mentioned again in an article about Adam. That is the only time he gets press when he is linked to Adam then his fans come a running talking about how much Adam loves Kris. Adam has moved on and he is not thinking about Kris Allen and the rest of the world is not either. Kris won fair but he has not done much to stand out since so his fans are bitter and angry that Adam upstaged their winner on Idol and after Idol. And why some bitter Clay fans would ride in the try to get press for him after all this time is just plain stupid. Nobody cares abot Clay either. It is all about Adam so get used to it and move on. Adam is an international star now and it does not much matter if Clay sold more in the early Idol years. Cause he is NOT selling more that Adam now and that is what counts. But I thank the writer for a positive article about Adam Lambert, just don’t want Kris getting attention off of Adam’s success.

  • March 14, 2011 | Permalink |

It is foolish to still be arguing this issue. It is a fact that Arkansas changed the outcome of Season 8 with 38 million votes. Read “American Idol Vote Scam”. That being said, Adam has survived and flourished because of his extraordinary talent. Kris had the American Idol win and all of the PR perks that go with it to make a name for himself. Marketing data and social media shows that Kris is losing interest rather than gaining new fans. It is up to him, just like it is up to Adam to see if he can survive in a very competitive business. Adam Lambert has the kind of talent that comes along maybe once in a generation. Adam’s “it” factor outshines all other Idol, including Kris. It is unfortunate that Allens’ fans choose to attack anyone who makes this honest observation.

  • March 14, 2011 | Permalink |

This review is so off-base. Kris performed within the first week or two on Idol last season. And I’m pretty sure he performed twice, so Adam’s three times is not such a dramatic difference. The season is still young. Kris is to be found — he opened for major huge acts last year, including Maroon 5 and Lifehouse. Adam is exrtraordinarily talented, there is no doubt, and I love to see him on Idol. He will have a long and lucrative career. Kris is a lower key personality, but will always have a loyal following and is supremely talented as well. That was a fantastic season of Idol, with so many lovable contestants, and ones who showed a lot more respect for each other than their fans and critics often do.

To Kerry Kolsch – Your comment “it is a fact……” is based on assumptions. Idol never released any final numbers so the book you quoted was written based on assumptions.

As a KA fan, I am only posting here to say that Kris has loyal fans that haven’t forgotten him.

American Idol needs to give up there pimping of Adam Lambert it is so clear that the American Idol viewers are so over him down 21% more people love James Durban 25 million watch Wednesday night and 21.5 watch Thursdays show people turned off there TVs for Lambert .

  • March 15, 2011 | Permalink |

@Susan I wrote the well researched book I am talking about. What I claimed is not an assumption. American Idol acknowledged about 100,000,000 votes were cast on the night of the Season 8 final. The governor of Arkansas and the Speaker of the house bragged about the 38 million votes from Arkansas. There was a stadium full of people at UCA that were voting around 10,000 times each. It was filmed by local TV, reported by local news media, and pictures of the vote party are all over the internet. AT&T was there handing out free phones and teaching power texting. You can like Kris all you want but do not claim that there is no proof about how he won.

  • March 17, 2011 | Permalink |

Well, we know who is mostly in the limelight, and we knew it would be like that before Idol was over. IMO, Season 8 was loaded with top talent (and LOOKS), though the high-def photo above is not exactly complimentary, more flattering to the colors in Adam’s jacket than anything…
While there is enough evidence for me that there might have been some voting irregularities in Season 8, (such as not being able to get calls through during the voting) enough so that I will never vote again on American Idol, I still wish both of these two great guys the best of luck in their careers. I was privileged to attend two GlamNation concerts and they were the most exciting concerts I have ever been to and I have attended plenty in my day, including the Season 8 Idols Live concert. I am delighted that the GN tour is coming out on DVD and I eagerly await my copy, to be enjoyed again and again, like “For Your Entertainment”, which lives in my car’s CD player. I can’t wait until Adam’s next CD comes out and he comes around on tour again!

Each one of them was rewarded by the LIFE (i.e. public, media, and professionals…) according to his own capacity. I feel sorry for Kris (he did not in forced himself as a winner, they were others people, more or less correct). However, Kris was left alone (it could not be more left alone than that) to deal with something that he didn’t deserve and that was bigger than what he could ever handle. This is why he ended up in the place that suits him best: now where.

Yes, the article is mean. I don’t know why it’s still brought up because it calls for PURE NEGATIVITY.
I think the author has a bad personality and wants to get all the “bad jus” out of us.

  • March 26, 2011 | Permalink |

It is water under the bridge. Adam Lambert is the best male singer ever on American Idol. He is also the best entertainer male or female. No one compares to him. Allen is not equal to Adam Lambert in any way. The voting scam makes sense. It explains why someone like Allen won against Adam. The writer is correct. Adam has the attention of the world. Kris does not.
