Jennifer Lawrence close to landing “Hunger Games”

By Sean O’Connell Conflicting reports coming out of the “Hunger Games” camp regarding casting of the book adaptation’s lead role.

Variety seems to believe that Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar nominated star of “Winter’s Bone,” is “close to getting an offer” to play Katniss, a tough teenager fighting to survive in a futuristic contest, according to a report published Friday.

Hours after, however, The Hollywood Reporter states that Lawrence may be in the lead for Katniss, but no offer has been made to the red-hot actress.

“She’s got huge fans at the studio,” a source close to Lionsgate tells THR. “But there is no final decision and certainly no offer.”

According to the report, Lawrence is facing tough competition from “True Grit” star Hailee Steinfeld and Abigail Breslin, who currently can be heard but not seen in “Rango.”
