Dane Cook taking break from stand-up comedy – SXSW

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Had a very nice one-on-one with Dane Cook on behalf of his new comedy, “Detention,” which has its world premiere at SXSW last night.

During our talk, Cook talked about his role as the elder statesman on the set of young actors, the classic 1980s school principal he tried to channel on the shoot, and the team of comedians he’s trying to groom as part of a new “team” he’d like to assemble to entertain the masses.

But the one on stage won’t be him.

While I’ll have the full interview up soon (hopefully), the bombshell Cook dropped is that he’s taking a break from the road. Having just wrapped up a comedy tour – ending with a gig at the Super Bowl – Cook says he’s heading to Broadway for a planned show, then dropping out of site to work on a book.

No live performing. No comedy tours.

What do you think? Can stand-ups ever really sit down for long? Will Cook get antsy and hit the road again soon? Let us know your thoughts, and look for my full interview with Dane Cook on the site soon.
