Tsunami prompts Clint Eastwood to pull “Hereafter”

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: As news from Japan beamed across our television screens, I looked down on my desk and stared at the Blu-ray release of Clint Eastwood’s “Hereafter.”

The supernatural rumination on the afterlife streets on Tuesday, March 15, and while it features Matt Damon connecting with spirits who communicate from beyond the grave, it also boasts a devastating tsunami in its opening scenes. Not the best time for the movie to come out on DVD … and also not the best time for it to be playing overseas.

That’s why Clint Eastwood has ended the film’s theatrical run in Japan, according to THR. Warner Entertainment Japan official Satoru Otani was quoted in the report as saying the film was “not appropriate” in light of recent events.

“Hereafter” opened in Japan in late February, and was supposed to stay in theaters until late March.
