Hollywoodnews.com: Oscar-nominee Jennifer Lawrence has landed the lead role in Gary Ross’s planned adaptation of “The Hunger Games.”
The Wrap confirms what has been rumored for weeks now. The “Winter’s Bone” star, who also gives a noteworthy performance in Jodie Foster’s “The Beaver,” will play Katniss, a headstrong young girl who partakes in a survival game in order to save her community.
Lionsgate hopes “Hunger Games” turns into a franchise based on the bestselling books by Suzanne Collins. The Wrap reports that the studio plans to make films from “Catching Fire” and “Mockingjay,” if “Hunger Games” takes off.
Lawrence reportedly bested a long line of potential actresses for the Katniss role, including Abigail Breslin, Hailee Steinfeld, Chloe Moretz, Lyndsy Fonseca, Saoirse Ronan, and Emma Roberts.
Lawrence has plenty of films in the can. She’ll be in Foster’s “Beaver,” and will play Mystique in Matthew Vaughn’s “X-Men: First Class.”
