Benjamin Bratt joining ABC’s “Private Practice”

By Sean O’Connell Benjamin Bratt’s planned cameo in the upcoming season finale of ABC’s “Private Practice” will be a tease of bigger things on the horizon, as the “Law & Order” veteran plans to join the prime-time medical soap next season as a full-time player.

Adding Bratt might have been a reaction by showrunners to the departure of “Private Practice” regular Audra McDonald who revealed that she’d be leaving the show after the current season “to spend more time with her family in New York,” according to THR.

Bratt will join Brian Benben (Dr. Sheldon Wallace) and Caterina Scorsone (Dr. Amelia Shepherd), supporting players who recently were promoted to regular cast members.

THR notes that “Practice” is pulling in 8.2 million viewers this season, “down from a full-season average of 9.3 million last year,” according to Nielsen reports.
