Ian McShane boards Singer’s “Giant Killer”

Hollywoodnews.com: He’s about to terrorize Johnny Depp in the next “Pirates of the Caribbean” adventure. Now it appears Ian McShane has his next job locked up, as well.
McShane will play Blackbeard, rival to Depp’s Jack Sparrow, in Rob Marshall’s “On Stranger Tides,” which arrives in theaters on May 20. After that, however, the “Deadwood” actor will climb into a regal throne to play a king in Bryan Singer’s “Jack the Giant Killer,” an adaptation of the Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale.
Heat Vision reports that McShane will join Nicholas Hoult and Eleanor Tomlinson, who have been cast as farm boy Jack and the princess he seeks to rescue, respectively.
Singer also has signed Stanley Tucci as a villainous adviser to the king. Supporting parts have been carved out for Ewan McGregor, Bill Nighy and John Kassir.
Currently in pre-production, “Jack and the Giant Killer” is targeting a 2012 release, and reportedly works from a screenplay by writing heavyweights Christopher McQuarrie, Darren Lemke and Mark Bomback.
Let’s hope it’s more “James and the Giant Peach,” and less “Where the Wild Things Are.”
