Captain America full trailer a bright and shining star

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: What’s my favorite effect from the brand new, full-length “Captain America: The First Avenger” trailer?

It has to be Chris Evans’ face on the scrawny body of pre-serum Steve Rogers. It’s such a disarming visual, but it shows that director Joe Johnston and his team get it. They understand Marvel’s most patriotic superhero, and are able to convey that he came from virtually nothing before moving on to be the mightiest warrior in the Marvel arsenal.

Oh sure, the rest of the clip goes on to tease what’s sure-to-be an action-packed summer blockbuster. But so much of what Johnston appears to do pre-Captain America looks perfect. The 1940s period settings. Evans’ “I can fight” attitude. The inclusion of Tony Stark’s father (or is that his grandfather?). The serum-injecting sequence looks a little sci-fi hokey, as does Evans’ expanded chest once he has been juiced by the U.S. government. But with so much of “Captain America” looking spot on from this early glance, it’s hard not to be excited by what Marvel and Paramount have in store.

The full “Captain America” trailer is below. The movie will be in theaters on July 22.
