Jim Carrey adopts “Mr. Popper’s Penguins”

By Sean O’Connell It’s not “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” sadly. But the new trailer for Jim Carrey’s “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” might be the closest thing we’ll ever see to the physically gifted comedian crossing paths with offbeat animals for the benefit of a film.

Carrey stars in “Penguins,” a family comedy about a Manhattan businessman whose life is turned upside down when he inherits six penguins. Carla Gugino co-stars as Amanda (Carrey’s love interest, I’m guessing), which Mark Waters of “Mean Girls” and “Freaky Friday” directs.

The film will be in theaters on June 17. It opens alongside Cameron Diaz’s “Bad Teacher” and the Warner Bros. update of “Green Lantern” with Ryan Reynolds.
