Paul Giamatti singing with Tom Cruise in “Rock”
By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: It’s a good time to be Paul Giamatti.
The actor is fresh off his Golden Globe win for “Barney’s Version,” and his latest film, “Win Win,” is earning tremendous reviews in limited release. But the character actor is never one to get complacent, and it sounds like he’s ready to challenge himself with his next role.
It’s being reported that Giamatti will join “Rock of Ages,” Adam Shankman’s adaptation of the smash Broadway musical that already has lured Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin and Mary J. Blige.
EW.com confirms what Deadline first reported, that Giamatti will play “the manager of a metal band fronted by Stacee Jaxx (Cruise).”
But the report also has a name that hasn’t been associated with “Rock” stories to this date: Russell Brand. Is this a typo, or is Katy Perry’s man in the ensemble, as well?
We’ll find out soon. Shankman will have “Rock of Ages” in theaters on June 1, 2012.
