Russell Brand wants to “Rock” with Tom Cruise

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: We mentioned this last week, that Russell Brand’s name was attached to a few stories being written about Adam Shankman’s planned adaptation of the Broadway musical “Rock of Ages.” And while the comedian’s tag has popped up as part of the ensemble, Brand had not commented on the possibility of him joining the crew.

Until now.

While walking the red carpet for the animated Hop,” which opens April 1, Brand told EW.com that he’d actually like to join “Ages,” so long as it gives him a little free time at home with his wife, Katy Perry.

“I have to make sure I see me wife [Katy Perry] enough, but if we can work out the schedule, then yeah, I want to do it,” Brand said.

The actor certainly is busy, having to promote both “Hop” and “Arthur” back-to-back. But if he can catch a break before “Ages” starts filming, anything is possible. No word on what role Brand would occupy, though he went on the elaborate that he loves the cast … and he looks the part.

“Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, rock music of the ’80s — you can’t go wrong,” Brand said. “And I’ve already got the hair. I am way ahead of them on that account.”

Shankman, who helmed “Hairspray,” will have “Rock of Ages” in theaters on June 1, 2012.
