Can Dana Delany carry ABC’s ‘Body of Proof’?
By Pat Ryder
hollywoodnews.com: Dana Delany gets a show of her own when ‘Body of Proof’ premieres tonight on ABC.
Can the ‘Desperate Housewives’ actress carry a drama in a season that has seen ABC already cancel ‘The Whole Truth’ and ‘My Generation’?
Delany spoke recently to citytv.com and discussed her car accident this summer which eerily parallels that of her ‘Body of Proof’ character Megan Hunt. Hunt is a neurosurgeon who has a life-altering accident, and as a result the character becomes a medical examiner…after she kills a patient on the operating table, that is.
Critics that have previewed the series debut have given ‘Body of Proof’ mixed reviews. Hollywood Chicago‘s review is the most scathing calling the show ‘Dead on Arrival.’ AdWeek gives ABC credit for trying to ‘expand its brand’ by ensuring ‘Body’ isn’t another soap opera like ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’
But TV Fanatic makes it clear that Delany is more than capable of pulling off the lead in this procedural drama and makes the show worthwhile.
Those of us that remember Dana Delany’s turn as a nurse in the Vietnam drama ‘China Beach’ know she’s got acting chops. The question is whether she has the star power to be the lead.
