Pixar unveils better “Brave” photo

By Sean O’Connell One of the criticisms leveled at the recent concept sketches Pixar Animation Studios released for its retooled “Brave” is that we didn’t get a good look at the film’s female hero, a Scottish princess who’d like to trade her royal future so that she can succeed as an archer.

Leave it to Pixar (and Walt Disney) to quickly rectify the situation!

Above, we have a solid look at Merida, the main “Brave” character who will be voiced by Kelly Macdonald (stepping in for the recently departed Reese Witherspoon). According to the studio, the “rugged and mysterious” Highlands of Scotland serve as the backdrop for this new animated feature, which will be co-directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and feature the voices of Emma Thompson, Billy Connolly, Julie Walters, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson and Robbie Coltrane.

“Brave” will be in theaters on June 22, 2012, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D in select theaters.
