Scream 5 and 6 not on Wes Craven’s radar … yet
By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Could “Scream” parts five and six be on the way, even before “Scream 4” opens in theaters?
Maybe. That’s not the most definitive answer, but it’s where we stand regarding the “Scream” franchise as Hollywood prepares to unleash Ghostface on unsuspecting teens and bloodthirsty audiences.
The rumor that “Scream 4” launches a new trilogy have been circulating ever since Wes Craven decided to return to his franchise. As of right now, though, it doesn’t. Just ask Craven, who today told CinemaBlend:
“There is no Scream 5 script. Kevin [Williamson], when I first talked to him about this project before there was a script, he had an idea for a trilogy, so we’ll have to see what comes out of that. I’m sure Bob Weinstein is open to it if the script or ideas are to his pleasure. He has very high standards. I don’t think he’s in any rush to do it particularly, but on the other hand, I think he’s open to the idea of a trilogy, so at the point when there is an idea that he’s really excited about I’m sure he will begin launching that next film.”
Horror franchises and sequels go hand-in-hand, so if “Scream 4” explodes out of the gate, you’ll begin to hear more and more about potential parts 5 and 6. But for right now, there is no movement on “Scream 5,” and there won’t be any new news until the new film opens on April 15.
