Robert Pattinson on playing the bad guy in ‘Bel Ami’

HollywoodNews.com: Robert Pattinson’s role in ‘Bel Ami’ will be quite a change for him, so he is hoping that fans hang in there and go on the ride with him.

Pattinson recently revealed to Total Film that his upcoming character isn’t what his fans are used to, states HollywoodLife. “We were really true to the book and because the guy is basically a s–t who wins everything at the end it’s really difficult to market it -– especially with me in it,” Pattinson said about the character.

Now, Pattinson’s main concern is that his fans will want his character to be nice to everyone which will hardly be the situation.

Are you looking forward to Robert Pattinson as a bad guy?

Sounds to me like the studios are wimping out and I think they’re making a huge mistake if they alter this film. We all know that Rob is a nice person, but as an actor it’s important to take on different challenges. If fans don’t realize that this is a character he is playing, then they have a little problem with reality. I think the studios need to give moviegoers a bit more credit – this won’t be so much for Twilight fans, but more for adults. I think it’s a really positive career move for Rob. His character in the Cronenberg film is not so nice and I can’t see David Cronenberg compromising the film. Jeff Bridges plays all sorts of characters – Michael Cain played Jack the Ripper, Brad Pitt played a creep in Kalifornia and he was excellent. I think he gained a lot of respect after that. Lets hope they release the film as it was meant to be seen. I sure don’t want to see a watered down version.

I believe Rob should play every character he possibly can. I have seen several of the films he has already done and he is different in every one of them. He was a strong, moral sweetheart in the twilight series and did him well. I am looking forward to him in Bel Ami being a “poop”….He has such range, and am looking forward to all his future films. I honestly believe this man will become one of our greatest, right along with Paul Newman and other greats. Love and Luck to you Rob…

I so dislike the “decisions by committees of suits” in the filmmaking marketing process!

If we don’t like Rob’s character in this movie, it means he’s doing a good job!!!

    Isn’t that in Rob’s favor?

Please stop dumbing me down as a fan and audience member. Please stop treating Rob like such a commodity, please lighten up, and support the film and his choice to be in it. He’s proved he has pretty good instincts so far.

He has enough mature fans who aren’t fickle in their appreciation and loyalty and “get the craft” Release the darned film already! It’s a good story.

“Bel Ami” is supposed to be ‘Oscar’ worthy in many departments. Let’s truly hope the producers don’t end up turning it into a “Disney” flick.
