Adam Lambert isn’t sure ‘American Idol’ voters got it right

HollywoodNews.com: Many people feel it was wrong when Adam Lambert didn’t win ‘American Idol,’ and now the star thinks that voters are getting it wrong this season.

Lambert spoke out on Twitter about the recent elimination of Pia Toscano. “Sad to see Pia go. One of the best voices on this season. Makes me think Voters aren’t focusing enough on vocal/musical ability,” Lambert posted.

Do you agree with Adam Lambert about why voters are choosing to keep who they do this season?

Sure we agree with Adam, as always. He is our SUPREME idol for for many reasons; a very important one is that he’s SMART.
Yep, we ADORE Adam more and more.

Pia was great, but I don’t know if she is relevant for today’s pop music. I don’t think the public connected with her as much as with someone like Haley, young, fresh and sexy or with James Durbin, great vocal rocker. As great as she sounded, she always did the same thing, ballads. No matter how good you sing, you have to bring it in a exciting way on stage performance wise in order to compete with Brittany, Kesha, Katy Perry and our glam god, Adam Lambert (no competition there, lol). However, I hope Pia does well in the music industry, because to not use her awesome voice, would be such a waste.

Yeah, I think he’s right. I’ve been following a lot of forums where people discuss the show and the consensus is that while Pia is talented, she is also boring to watch. Everyone agree that she’s got one hell of a voice, but compare to the other contestant she is too mellow and low-key. It wasn’t her vocal ability that cost her votes. American Idol is a popularity contest as much as a talent competition; can’t make it if you don’t have the skills, but if you’re not interesting or funny or personable, no way are you going far. It’s a sad truth, but that’s how things work. Lambert himself made it as far as he did in the competition (and afterwards) because in addition to having an incredible voice, he’s also gorgeous, humorous, quirky, friendly, and lots of fun to watch. He’s a spectacle of the best kind. He knew the game well and played it well. So yeah he’s totally right about what happen with Pia.

I wouldn’t say poor Pia though. Gorgeous and talented as she is, no way is she gonna go back to her make-up artist life. Great things are still to come for this girl, and I can’t wait to see what she makes of herself with the opportunity that Idol opened her up to. ^_^

I AGREE 100 PERCENT WITH JUDYS COMMENT

  • April 8, 2011 | Permalink |

Adam did get it right. Pia was amazing, her vocals were the best this season.

  • April 8, 2011 | Permalink |

Not sure what type of contest this is any more, nor do I care all that much. Too bad the judges didn’t place the blame where it belongs, on their own million dollar backs. Time to stop being cheerleaders and start being judges, or is it too late?

Adam is right and voters/Idol got it wrong…..AGAIN. My two favs this season to battle it out were Pia and Jacob, BECAUSE I am listening for great vocals and musicality. James is too pitchy and does scream (not a rock belt like Lambert’s) and does NOT have “perfect pitch” that Adam possesses. Pia and Jacob have the best vocals this season, period.Adam knows it. Musicians know it. Please make sure none of these other “wanna-bes” beat sout Jacob now.VOTE!!!! He has got some pipes! Don’t believe me…ask Adam. Or believe your lying ears! LOL!

It all comes down to song choices. What Pia sang the night before – horrible. Doesn’t matter how good she sings, the song sucked big time and unfortunately that is what sticks in people’s minds when they are voting.

  • April 8, 2011 | Permalink |

Pia had a good voice but there is others that can outdo her…someone has to go….I am not a Casey fan….James and Scotty I love to listen to, but not enough to buy a ticket to the Idol tour…Only been to one idol tour and that was to see Adam…..I wish them all the best tho’.

Pia can sing and she is beautiful. I think Hollywood is going to snap her up in some way. If they don’t they have let a big talent slip through their fingers. Adam/Pia duet on his cd??

  • April 8, 2011 | Permalink |

I have read numerous articles regarding the departure of Pia…13 – 16 year old girls are voting for the good looking boys…Pia did not connect with the audience and her version of Tina Turner’s song was not popular with the voting audience. I still think she has a beautiful voice and will probably do well in the music industry as stated above by Judy Lushman but Pia is not “pop” like Katy etc..
Also, some people say that the save should not have been used for Casey and yes you do have to bring something unique and original to the stage like Adam (he set the bar so high for style and spetacle).
I sure miss Simon. Someone has to be honest about the contestants’ performances. It seems that the three judges are “sugar coating” their comments too much.
I’m watching Idol this season but if you can imagine Adam in this year’s group, sorry he would not have any competition. He is still my Rock God. Can’t wait for the next cd!

  • April 8, 2011 | Permalink |

I thought Pia was a shoo in so I never voted, I left all the work up to the next person and now I am sorry. My only prayer is that hoey Haley doesn’t win.Good luck to the rest though. Love Scotty and James, like Jacob alot too..Adam really liked Pia’s vocals, now he really knows how we felt when he didn’t come in 1st.lol

  • April 8, 2011 | Permalink |

I don’t understand why the judges were so upset. According to the three of them all 9 contestants were and are always extremely good. So why the crying when one of them has to go. Only one of the greats can be the american idol. American idol can save a lot of money by buying three parrots and place them on those chairs and train them to say ‘that was the bomb, dawg’ , ‘that was awesome’ and ‘i love it’ every single week. I miss Simon.

  • April 8, 2011 | Permalink |

I agree that Pia didn’t connect with the audience in ways that the others did. She does have a great voice, no doubt, but the name of the program is American Idol, not who is the best singer. Actually, I have no idea why Jacob is on the program. Is talent is too big to be judged against the others (my opinion). And Adam…he’s my man, always will be. Now, don’t you guys think that the judges, who are supposed to be there to give opinions on the performances and who who should be “adult” enough not to throw the other guy under the bus, acted irresponsibly toward the other contestant who made it through. No-one should feel guilty because he was voted safe. I was disgusted with Randy, especially, for his obvious displeasure. Idol sucks for letting that happen. It was almost mob action.

  • April 8, 2011 | Permalink |

Of course Pia was booted off..this show has become more about the circus theatrics then it is about the voice. I love theatrics in a song, IF the voice supports it (just watch any Adam Lambert performance). This year artists like Pia got lost to the theatrics. Its the “look at how much running around and jumping off things” show..its about the very cheesy “slowburn” into the cameras, and the “I dont really have to sound good, as long as I can screech really high” show. I stopped watching it 2 weeks ago because its more like the Gong Show now then a real talent show. Bring back Simon so these kids gets some honest feed back. Lord knows they need it.

  • April 8, 2011 | Permalink |

I am really sorry Pia left. She was one of my favorites. Sadly, I voted for Haley (another favorite of mine) and Jacob to keep them in the show. I thought Pia was safe. Maybe I should start voting for James as well because he is a rocker. However, I want a girl to win (I can’t bear four white guys in a row winning), so I’ll vote for Haley and Lauren each week from now on. I want Haley to win it. Idol will lose it’s relevance if white guys keep winning.

  • April 8, 2011 | Permalink |

Totally AGREE with ADAM … Idol has turned into a popularity ‘which BOY is Cuter with the teeny boppers this season’ competition … who cares if he can sing or not … just as long as he appeals to the TEENY boppers of America … in that case I feel as though the next Idol will once again be MALE!! Sorry girls … might as well not even bother trying out for this show … you’re doomed right from the get-go. Neither Pia nor Jacob belonged in the bottom three …. but what do I know … I thought it was a SINGING competition for both MALE & FEMALE contestants!! Pia & jacob don’t jump around the stage … but they can both SING!!!! I’m done with AI for good!!

  • April 9, 2011 | Permalink |

I don’t watch American Idol, and I’m sick of everyone making gossip about what Adam tweeted, did or said…

  • April 9, 2011 | Permalink |

What is wrong with the people commenting? Who cares if you’re not going to ever watch American Idol ever again? I sure don’t. American Idol didn’t pick Pia to lose. She didn’t get enough votes. That brings me to my point. I hear people calling Americans “ignorant” over her elimination. I respect Pia and I think she is probably at the top of the talent this year. However I wouldn’t vote for her because I don’t like her music or her style. I wouldn’t buy a Celine Dion CD and I wouldn’t buy one by Pia. I’m ignorant for that? No. I just wouldn’t vote for her. I like some others more. I’m not taking away from her talent one bit.
So vote for me now and thumbs-down me you bunch of crybabies that disagree!!

Adam Lambert it the epitome of ‘American Idol’ voters not getting it right.

  • April 9, 2011 | Permalink |

This show has gone from bad to worse.
Since season’s 8 fiasco this show is just for making money and let mediocre but cute face singers think they can sing.
When was the last time a girl has won?
yes girls, give up, you have no chance.
I try to post this on the American Idol site and of course I was cut off.
Pia has a great voice, I saw some videos and not just to agree with Adam but lets face it, this is not a singing competion anymore, is just a bunch a litlle girls, I guess biebber fans also, voting for a cute boy that is going nowhere just because their voice is not good enough.
I miss the old AI, I miss Simon and I miss when the show had some credibility.
Now, is just a big circus and educated americans are not voting I guess, for the looks of the way things are going.
I am looking forward to see the new show with C.Aguilera, hope it’s better than this sorry excuse for trying to find the new “American Idol”.
    Where is last year’s winner?
    Or poor Kris Allen?
Big travesti of what could be, and was in the past, a good show.
Glad I am not loosing my time and yes, Adam is right, they got it all wrong, he is to polite to say it but I will say it, this show is for dumb, ignorant people, people who have no clue about a great voice, I bet the country kid is going to win.
Just what we need, another country singer that will blend in and has no personal style, or an poor version of Adam.
Nothing wrong with the kids, they have no idea they are just feeding a huge machine and that once the sumer tour ends they will go nowhere.
How many great stars have come out of that show?

Hope Ryan makes a move to another… better show.
    This one is done.

Some are saying that the teeny-bopper girls are voting off the girls to keep the “cute” guys on the show. Huh? What cute guys?

  • April 9, 2011 | Permalink |

i gave up on the audience ever getting anything right, after adam didn’t win ! if they couldn’t see how fantastically talented he is, they’re hopeless.

  • April 9, 2011 | Permalink |

I hear lots of comments about the teen girl vote, but strangely, not that many teen girls in my school are voting this year. I am a teacher and the girls used to come in all talking about who they voted for, but no idol chatter is happening this year. I teach at a private school for girls, age 12-17, so this is surprising. When I asked my classes, none of them are voting and not many seem to have favorites or even watch regularly. This may be an anomaly, but I don’t think so. I think the main people watching now are women, not teens.

  • April 9, 2011 | Permalink |

Yes, an Adam/Pia duet — wouldn’t that be great? Adam should take Pia under his wing and teach her some performance and stage basics. She has the looks and the voice but was lacking in charisma. She needed to look into that camera and flirt with it. It’s all about sex!

  • April 9, 2011 | Permalink |

Adam is definitely right and while no Idol contestant will ever come close to Adam, Pia was pure talent with amazing vocals. I agree she needed to work more on the “wow” factor and perform better, but she should have been given the time. Remember Carrie Underwood? She was the same way and now look at her. Pia will be fine and signed quickly as soon as she’s out of Idol’s contract. Wait and see what a star she will become and wouldn’t be cool to have her work with Adam. He could teach her so much and with her voice, she would be unstoppable. Adam….reach out and help her. Adam…the one and only true American Idol!!!

  • April 9, 2011 | Permalink |

Vocally I agree with Adam. But sadly the show HAS become a cheezy fest… And I too am tired of it. After all it is the judges who time after time have said “it’s a singing competition”. Anyway, looking forward to seeing what “The Voice” with Xtina is all about…

And the judges are acting more like cheerleaders than judges as someone here noted and I agree. There is no constructive critique and there needs to be. Also, why doesn’t the show both try to entertain and educate.

Perhaps some blurbs once in a while about how vocals work and what allows a singer the ability to sing.. things I have learned from following Adam’s career. Someone can have a good singing voice, but to learn or know how to use and control it to advantage is also an art and instrument unto itself – and I don’t think America understands this art and is not being educated about it at all! Sad in a way… just more of the dummy-ing down of America, or is it dumbing down…

  • April 9, 2011 | Permalink |

Yes, Pia has awesome vocals. But she just bored me. I would not buy her cd or get tickets to see her. She needed to make it exciting like Adam did by doing a ballad type one week and uptempo-ing the next, while changing the arrangement even slightly. Then I would have enjoyed her more. But then again I haven’t voted since Season 8 so it wouldn’t have mattered. 🙂

  • April 9, 2011 | Permalink |

Adam is probably right about Pia. But I’m sorry, I don’t see a star in the whole group. I’m afraid whoever wins this thing will only do a little better than Kris Allen and that is not saying much.

  • April 9, 2011 | Permalink |

I think Pia has a beautitful voice and she is a beautiful girl, but we all know its not just about voice, its about performance, and unfortunately sometimes about popularitty, and when a contestant performed. We tend to remember those who performed last. I hate the way the audience, and on some level the judges reacted when it was Pia going home, because it must have made Stefano feel just awful, and he should not, he is talented as well. and it just was the way the votes came out. I tend to vote for James, because I think he is talented and I admire him because of all the challenges in his life he has met with courage and conviction. I in fact admire all of these young people for having the courage to go before all of us every week to be judged. Lastly, I think we should remember that you don’t have to win this contest to get into entertainment world, remember Daughterty, Jennifer Hudson, and most of all that super talented, dark haired, generous and giving one, who was he? Oh yea, Adam.

  • April 9, 2011 | Permalink |

Perhaps Pia was sent home because many of Adam’s fans refuse to vote because they know the voting is f(_)cked up.

  • April 9, 2011 | Permalink |

Hey! @Sleepwalker … got a question for you … if you’re so sick of reading about ADAM … why are you HERE … reading about ADAM’s “OPINION” on this issue? Go read about someone else … we WON’T miss you ….

  • April 10, 2011 | Permalink |

I agree with Adam in the sense that Pia shouldn’t have get eliminated NOW= that soon. She was good for another 3-4 weeks in that competition. However, PIA DID NOT HAVE THE PERSONALITY TO MATCH HER VOICE. She could not win that competition anyways.
If you can get training to improve your voice, you can’t get training for personality and you can’t buy it . You have to be born with it . Pia wasn’t.

  • April 10, 2011 | Permalink |

Pia was amazing, but America got it wrong, AGAIN. Saw her on Jay Leno Friday night, she sang between the breaks, she rocked it, in fact she sounded better than she did on Idol. Everyone’s still in shock, the biggest shocker since Kris Allen winning the title, which should have gone to Adam. But winning isn’t everything, I think Pia will do well, she’s talented, look at the one’s before her who has made it big without winning the title. They need to change the system, do it the same as “So You Think You Can Dance” were the bottom 3 are judged and the judges have more contol, I’ m not sure about the wild card system they’ve used the last couple of .years
