Dame Helen Mirren gets saucy on SNL

Helen Mirren

By Kim Palacios

hollywoodnews.com: “Unexpected” is the only way to describe Dame Helen Mirren’s turn as host on last night’s Saturday Night Live. The Englishwoman’s opening spiel focused on decoupling the image played in her Oscar-winning role (that of Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 film “The Queen”) from her own less inhibited personality. Yet the sketches went far in painting Mirren as a sex symbol, focusing on her sex appeal not only during the opening monologue but also through an SNL Digital Short dedicated to her cleavage. In a subsequent sketch sixty-five year old Mirren even played a stripper.

“I may have been appointed dame of the British Empire,” said the actress as she opened the show “…but I’m not all scones and teacups–I’m more biscuits and D-cups.” A subsequent song she sung included the line, “Have you ever seen ‘Caligula’? I’m in the orgy scene.” The SNL Digital Short featured Nasim Pedrad touching the actress’ cleavage and being transported through a religious experience that likened the destination to cloud white heaven. The sketch featured a cameo of Foo Fighters front man Dave Grohl.
