Selena Gomez glams up “Monte Carlo” trailer

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Selena Gomez is moving from “Waverly Place” to “Monte Carlo.” Will her devoted audience follow?

Thomas Bezucha’s romantic comedy stars Gomez, Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy as three beauties vacationing in Paris who are whisked away to the luxurious playground after one of the girls is mistaken for British royalty.

Ah, the “mistaken identity” screenwriting tool. Don’t you love it?

20th Century Fox appears to be attempting some counterprogramming, opening “Monte Carlo” opposite Paramount’s “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” which will appeal to teenage boys. The girls, meanwhile, will be able to grab “Monte Carlo” tickets, while mom and dad can see Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts in “Larry Crowne.” Win-win all the way around.

Here’s the new “Monte Carlo” trailer. The film opens everywhere on July 1.
