Jeremy Renner may fill “Bourne” shoes

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Jeremy Renner’s currently helping Tom Cruise resurrect the dormant “Mission: Impossible” franchise. Could he also be planning on picking up the baton from Matt Damon on another signature adventure franchise?

The Oscar nominee reportedly has been offered the starring role in the next “Bourne” film, according to THR. Directed by “Bourne” scribe Tony Gilroy, who also helmed the excellent “Michael Clayton” with George Clooney, “Bourne Legacy” would continue the story of the once-amnesic spy that previously was played by Damon.

The one thing keeping Renner from signing on the dotted line right now is timing.

THR reports that Renne’s about to film “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.” He’s also a part of Joss Whedon’s massive “The Avengers,” set for next summer. And he’d like to star opposite Eric Bana in Sheldon Turner’s revenge thriller “By Virtue Fall.”

Can Renner fit it all in? I hope so, because if “Bourne” has to continue without Damon, Renner would be an excellent substitute.
