“Piranha 3D” sequel dives into production

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: What would you call a sequel to last summer’s “Piranha 3D,” a gory and graphic but downright fun horror comedy?

“Piranha 3DD,” of course.

Dimension Films has started production on the sequel, with principal photography currently underway in Wilmington, N.C. John Gulager, who helmed “Feast,” will direct. The original film did OK in the States ($25M) but earned an additional $58M overseas.

From the release:

There’s something in the water . . . again. And this time no one is safe from the flesh eating fish as they sink their razor sharp teeth into the visitors of the best summer attraction, The Big Wet Water Park.

Featuring a talented ensemble cast including Danielle Panabaker (THE CRAZIES), Matt Bush (ADVENTURELAND), Chris Zylka (THE AMAZING SPIDERMAN), David Koechner (ANCHORMAN), Meagan Tandy (UNSTOPPABLE), Paul James Jordan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez, and Clu Gulager. More cast members will be announced soon.

“Piranha 3DD” is scheduled to be in theaters nationwide on Nov. 23, 2011.
