“Transformers” trailer raises bar on summer special effects

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: In my “Fast Five” review, I mentioned that the film’s concluding stunt – which drags a multi-ton safe through downtown Rio De Janeiro, causing all sort of carnage – would make Michael Bay drool.

I stand corrected.

Bay, the God of Summer Blockbuster Mayhem, has much bigger things up his sleeve, and some of them were revealed in the first full-length “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” trailer. It has been posted on Apple.com, and we’ve posted it below.

Mr. Bay, you had me at, “Octopus Transformer rips a skyscraper in half.”

As expected, “Dark of the Moon” teases the script’s idea that the 1960s space race had something to do with Transformers on the moon. It builds to a massive battle on planet Earth, where that trademark Bay-hem unleashes hell.

I’m pretty sure there’s more to “Moon” than even this clip reveals. I think there will be a third act development that will have people talking.

For now, all of the talk will be about this clip. Very impressive. Summer’s finally here, no?
