“Conan” trailer delivers dark, savage thrills

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: As summer moviegoers prepare to meet an Asgardian warrior with comic book roots when they plunk down cash to see “Thor” this weekend, we’ve got a tease for another classic fighter who hopes to lure audiences back to theaters toward the end of the season.

Jason Momoa plays Conan the Barbarian in a 3D reboot of the franchise that once helped put Arnold Schwarzenegger on the map. Directed by Marcus Nispel (“The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “Friday the 13th”), this new “Conan” tells the story of a young warrior who battles through the land of Hyboria on a savage mission to avenge the murder of his father and the slaughter of his village.

Ron Perlman and Rose McGowan co-star in the “Conan” adventure, which – with Nispel at the helm – could return the franchise to its darkest, goriest roots. A new trailer, just released, suggests steps in that dark direction, at the very least. Check out the trailer on Yahoo! Movies. We’ve also pasted it below.

“Conan the Barbarian” opens on Aug. 19.
