“Real Housewives” + dinner parties = disaster

By Kim Palacios

hollywoodnews.com: Maybe it’s time for the “Real Housewives” crowd to stop throwing dinner parties for their fellow co-stars. The May 1st episode of “The Real Housewives of Orange County” showed yet another “housewives” dinner party gone awry. Peggy Tanous and husband Micah got more than they bargained for by inviting the other housewives and their partners to dinner. It was nearly as disastrous as “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’” “Dinner Party from Hell.”

When interviewed for the episode, Peggy commented, “We put a lot of effort into this dinner party, and I felt a little like it wasn’t being appreciated,” an observation that may have been the most politely-worded of the year. Housewife Tamra and Vicki Gunvalson’s husband Donn, in particular, roused rabble, whispering cattily and conspicuously about multiple guests, drawing attention to the absence of Alexis Bellino’s husband, Jim, and questioning the whereabouts of Gretchen Rossi’s boyfriend, Slade Smiley. Despite Rossi’s assertion that Smiley missed the party to visit with his children, the gossip-fest raged on. At one point, Vicki added fuel to the fire, haranguing Alexis Bellino’s date about the absence of husband Jim Bellino while Alexis herself took a break from the party.

I love how dramatic all this gets—-we’re talking about a dinner party, not a charity event for blind kids in India. Speaking of drama, I personally don’t think it could have been any more obvious that Alexis had already told Peggy—-the way Peggy acted (and I mean, literally, the way she acted like she was in a movie) like she had no idea Jim would be there was so clear.

All of this makes me wonder if we’ll ever see Jim mixing it up again with the RHOC crew. Anyone know if he’s coming to the reunion or not? I have my doubts, but the they may not give him a choice if his wife is still on the show. Anyone up for a gentleman’s bet?
