Angelina Jolie is the “Hollywood Movie Star of the Week”

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: How do you know you are a massive movie star? How about when the majority of the media covering a sprawling international film festival puts their work on hold to cover a movie that only features your voice?

That’s what happens when Angelina Jolie descends on Nice to attend the Cannes Film Festival in support of her latest film, “Kung Fu Panda 2” … an animated feature that only showcases Jolie’s voice. Granted, Jolie attracts attention virtually everywhere she goes. But at a major fest like Cannes, things are bound to get “bizarre,” as NYMag.com reported from this morning’s press conference.

“The questions [asked by journalists] centered mostly on Jolie’s children, Jolie’s motherhood, Jolie playing tough women, Jolie playing a tigress, Jolie’s great popularity in China, what Jolie thinks about bin Laden (“I’m here in the context of Kung Fu Panda; I’d rather not get into such a heavy issue”), and when Jolie was going to come visit China. No one asked when Jolie was going to adopt a Chinese baby, but we got there five minutes late,” the mag jokingly writes.

While it’s unfortunate Jolie has to contend with such nonsense, it’s the price of fame. How do you think the other half of the Pitt-Jolie power couple – Brad Pitt – will fare when he shows up in Cannes to help promote Terrence Malick’s “Tree of Life?” I’m predicting it will be equally ugly.

So what could the journos in attendance have asked Ms. Jolie? Oh, I don’t know. Why not inquire about the status of her directorial debut? Question her about co-starring once again with a legend like Dustin Hoffman (pictured)?

Expect the Jolie chatter to continue. “Kung Fu Panda 2” doesn’t open until May 26, but thanks to Jolie’s presence in Cannes, the rev up to the film’s release has begun in earnest and that is why we are very proud to announce that she has been named the “Hollywood Movie Star of the Week.”
