“X Factor,” “Terra Nova” top Fox’s fall TV sked

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Fox unveiled its 2011-12 schedule Monday, giving fans a peek at where anticipated programs will fall during the week.

“Terra Nova,” for instance, has been paired with “House” in a move to bolster the network’s Monday night programming. Executive produced by Steven Spielberg, the sci-fi drama centers on the Shannons, “an ordinary family from 2149 when the planet is dying who are transported back 85 million years to prehistoric Earth where they join Terra Nova, a colony of humans with a second chance to build a civilization.”

It sounds like “Avatar” meets “Land of the Lost,” but the network is hoping for sprawling, “Lost”-type adventures that will build a devoted following over time.

Simon Cowell’s “The X Factor” should be a hit right away, on the flip side, and Fox revealed that the singing competition will air on Wednesday and Thursdays, leading up to the return of “American Idol” in January.

Meanwhile, the new sitcom “The New Girl” has landed the post-“Glee” slot, a great get for any new program.

“Nothing impacts culture the way a television show does,” Peter Rice, chairman, entertainment, Fox Networks Group said in a statement. “And here at Fox, we have the most talked about, most followed, most creative shows that build connections between viewers and brands.”
