Johnny Depp is the “Hollywood Movie Star of the Week”

By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Johnny Depp isn’t in it for the money. And he isn’t in it for the fame. He’s one of the last few talents who’ll go with a project simply because it moves him on an emotional, creative level.

Most times that means collaborating with dear friend Tim Burton, as Depp plans to do shortly for an update of the ancient TV soap “Dark Shadows.” The production recently began filming in London, according to reports. Or maybe it involves him angling to make a cameo in a “21 Jump Street” feature, given the fact that his involvement with the TV drama several decades ago helped put him on the map. Again, he doesn’t have to do it. He simply thinks it would be a good idea.

Do you know what else was a good idea? Stepping back into Capt. Jack Sparrow’s boots for a fourth “Pirates of the Caribbean” film. Granted, another “Pirates” film wasn’t necessary. The third installment, “At World’s End,” concluded a story that at the time pulled in Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom. But Depp knew the fans wanted more. Maybe he wanted more, as well. So they moved Sparrow to the focal point of the series, set off on a quest for the Fountain of Youth, and delivered an adventure fans of the franchise will devour.

Depp, himself, appears to have taken a few swigs from the Fountain, as he has embarked on a tireless world tour to help Disney promote the fourth “Pirates.” Stops included London, France (for the Cannes Film Festival) and Hollywood, where Depp conducted interviews and, most importantly, greeted fans. Because Depp knows, above all else, that it’s the fans who have supported him all of these years, and will continue to support him for years to come.

No, Johnny Depp isn’t in it for the money or the fame. He’s in it for the fans, and this week, he gives them exactly what they’ve been asking for: More “Pirates” fun. And that’s why we are very proud to announce that Johnny Depp has been named the “Hollywood Movie Star of the Week.”
