“X-Men: First Class” clip shows explosive action
By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Up until this point, the teaser trailers and clips building anticipation for Matthew Vaughn’s “X-Men: First Class” worked to establish character. They set the stage for a prequel, explaining that a young Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) were setting up the professor’s school for gifted mutants, but the clips were heavy on exposition and light on action.
That changes now. A new TV spot teases Vaughn’s approach to action, reminding us that while this is an “X-Men” movie interested in deeper themes of acceptance and segregation, it’s also a summer superhero blockbuster. Remember, Vaughn directed the swashbuckling “Stardust” (vastly underrated) and the bone-crunching “Kick-Ass.”
I never doubted that Vaughn could handle the action side of an “X-Men” film. But this new clip confirms that we’re in for an explosive experience come June 4.
