Will Lauren Alaina’s rasp power her to an “American Idol” win?
By Sean O’Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: Twitter blew up minutes before Tuesday’s “American Idol” finale: Finalist Lauren Alaina, the teenage powerhouse from Georgia, almost had to drop out due to a blown vocal chord, with runner up Haley Reinhart (if you believe the rumors) warming up backstage to take her place.
But Alaina didn’t let a little thing like a raspy voice keep her out of the singing competition, and the spitfire took on fellow Southerner Scotty McCreery in the finale from Los Angeles’ Nokia Theater L.A.
In a competition deemed too close to call by the three celebrity judges, McCreey and Alaina each sang three songs. Alaina was deemed the frontrunner at the end of the show, but it’s up to America to vote and choose a winner for the vibrant tenth season of the long-running show.
Will Alaina win a sympathy vote for powering through an illness, helping her triumph over a sore throat to become the latest “Idol” champ? Or will McCreery (who’s bound to be a country music superstar no matter the outcome?) benefit from the fact that most voters are teenage girls, giving guys an unfair advantage in the voting? (Ask Crystal Bowersox about that …)
We’ll find out tonight when the results of this season’s “American Idol” are announced on FOX.
