Hollywoodnews.com: The battle between Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery was a shot in the arm for “American Idol,” leading to a bump in ratings for the finale from season 9 to 10.
“Idol” producers have said a record-setting 122 million votes were filed on Tuesday night, leading to ratings jumping up 17 percent from the 2010 finale. MTV.com reports that viewership for the finale tallied 28.2 million, “beating out last year’s Lee DeWyze crowning by 4 million viewers.”
As if McCreery, who won the competition, needed more reason to smile.
“Carrie Underwood asked us when we met her, ‘Your cheeks hurt yet?’” he told reporters backstage after the show.
“I’ll be smiling for a good while now, I promise that.”
