Lady Gaga passes 1-million-sold mark with “Born This Way”

Hollywoodnews.com: Lady Gaga finds herself in some impressive company this week. Having dropped her latest album, “Born This Way,” Gaga watched the record soar past the 1-million mark in terms of records sold, placing her in the same conversation as Britney Spears, Whitney Houston, Norah Jones and Taylor Swift when it comes to speedy record sales.

Gaga’s album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart “with 1,108,000 copies sold in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan,” making it “only the 17th album to sell a million in a week since SoundScan began tracking sales data in 1991, and the highest sales week since 2005,” according to THR.

That is way above the conservative estimates posted at Universal Music Group – Gaga’s own label – who put the opening week number somewhere around 400,000 when they guessed a month ago.
